AURORA, Colo.—No police officers will be prosecuted in the shooting death of a man outside a store in Aurora.

Prosecutors said Tuesday that an Arapahoe County grand jury has decided against an indictment in the shooting of 49-year-old Juan Contreras last July.

Police say Contreras was shot as an officer tried to arrest him on allegations that he tried to extort cash from a woman who had lost her car keys. Police say Contreras was armed with a knife and had struggled with an officer when he was shot.

Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates says police will conduct an internal affairs investigation to determine whether any police department rules were violated in the shooting, and a tactical review board will report on what lessons can be learned.
