The Lone Tree City Clerk has cancelled the May 8th municipal elections since no opposing candidates entered the local races.
The decision — announced today — took into consideration both city and state laws that allow election cancellations in cases where there is only one candidate running for a position.
There were enough petitions filed to the city clerk by the three candidates running in three separate races to warrant the decision. As a result, Lone Tree City Council will vote at their May 1 meeting on a resolution that will declare the candidates elected.
A special council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 8 at 4:30 p.m. to swear the candidates — James D. Gunning as Mayor, Harold Anderson as Council Member District 1, and Kim R. Monson as Council Member District 2 — into office.
