After winning the MLS Cup last year, the Galaxy lost three of its first four league games this season and a two-game Champions League quarterfinal series with Toronto FC but rebounded last week with a 3-1 win over Portland.
“I think they were just tired,” Rapids midfielder Jeff Larentowicz said. “They had a lot of pressure with the Champions League coming on, and they have some older players. To start off the season with that sort of intensity is tough. I’m sure the Champions League games were meaning more to them, so their energy was exhausted. Now that they’re not thinking about that anymore, they can focus on the league, and that’s what they did the other night.”
