The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Denver as of Sunday was higher than the national average, the gasoline website reported today.

The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Denver Sunday was $3.86 a gallon, while the national average was $3.85 .

The cost of a gallon in Denver rose 0.3 cents last week while the national average has fallen 4.2 cents per gallon in one week.

Prices Sunday in Denver were 30.5 cents a gallon higher than the same day a year ago, and 21.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago.

The national average has decreased 0.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 1.5 cents a gallon higher than this day one year ago.

“Average gasoline prices nationally continue to slowly drop,” said senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan. “I expect the national average in the U.S. will actually be lower (by Wednesday) than it was on the same day in 2011.

“Perhaps looking at the big picture with prices having failed to reach new records so far in 2012, we can restore some gas-sanity in this country,” said DeHaan.

GasBuddy operates and more than 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at more than 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada.
