DENVER—The Regional Transportation District’s board of directors doesn’t plan to ask Denver-area voters for a sales tax hike this year.

RTD officials have said a tax hike would be needed to fully carry out the agency’s FasTracks plan to expand Denver-area mass transit. RTD Board Chair Lee Kemp said Tuesday that while economic conditions are slowly improving in the Denver area, the timing is not right to ask voters for more money.

The agency says it will keep pursuing alternative funding sources, including grants and public-private partnerships.
