Kiarron Parker, the man shot by an off-duty Denver police officer Sunday outside an Aurora church, spent years in an Oklahoma prison after he broke into an occupied home, put a ham in the oven, stripped naked and jumped out of a second story window.

Parker was released five months ago. On Sunday, Aurora police say, he crashed his car in the parking lot of the Destiny Christian Center, then randomly shot and killed 67-year-old Josephine Echols, the mother of the pastor. She was a nurse, rushing to aid Parker after the crash.

Aurora police have said they cannot find any reason behind Parker’s violent outburst and toxicology reports won’t be available for a couple of weeks. But that a friend told police Parker became agitated for no apparent reason a short time before the fatal incident.

Tony Coleman, Parker’s lawyer in the Oklahoma case, told 9News nothing in the 2009 case foreshadowed what happened Sunday.

An Oklahoma City police report states Parker kicked in the backdoor of the home, “placed a ham in the oven and turned the oven on,” then ran upstairs “yelling to the victims to get up get downstairs, get on patrol.” The victims ran from the home.

The police report and Coleman said Parker took off his clothes and jumped out of the second story window. leading to a chase.
