A couple stopped to visit a garage sale in Highlands Ranch today and left their two children, a1-year-old and a 3-year-old, in their car while it was still running, then a man jumped into the vehicle and drove off.
Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies rushed to the area and caught up with the driver, later identified as Robert C. Orr, 43, of Littleton . Deputies returned the children safely to their parents.
The incident began at about 12:20 p.m. near Anasazi Indian Way in Highlands Ranch.
Orr, a stranger to the couple, was arrested at Highlands Ranch Parkway and Broadway.
Court records indicate his only previous offense in Colorado was a summons issued for expired license plates in 2009.
“Douglas County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to be cautious and not to leave children unattended in a vehicle,” the agency stated in a media release.
