PARKER, Colo.—Authorities are investigating after weapons were found in cars near two Douglas County high schools.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Ron Hanavan said Tuesday deputies found guns in a car Monday at Chaparral High School in Parker, about 25 miles southeast of Denver.

Hanavan says authorities also searched two students’ cars at Legend High School in Parker and found a knife in each one. He says the searches were prompted by tips from school officers.

Hanavan says school officials believe the discoveries on the two campuses are related, but they refused to elaborate.
