Denver fell one degree short of a record high for May 10 when the mercury peaked at . Thursday, but today’s high temperature is expected to be 34 degrees cooler as rain moves in.
The city has a 40 percent chance of rain during the day today and a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday night, with . Temperatures could warm up to 55 on Saturday, but rain chances for Denver are 50 percent, forecasters said.
The metro region has a 20 percent chance of rain Sunday, as temperatures warm back to 62 degrees, according to the forecast.
Sunny skies, with highs in the 70s and 80s return to the metro region next week.
The mountains also are in store for rain this weekend, but temperatures could be warmer than those on the Front Range.
Steamboat Springs could reach 69 degrees Saturday and Sunday, while the National Weather Service expects Aspen to reach 59 degrees each day. The forecast for Durango calls for 69 degrees Saturday and 66 Sunday.
After only an inch of snow in March and April, the official monitoring site at only 0.19 inch of precipitation this month, or 0.43 below average for the month, according to the National Weather Service.
The average temperature in the site has been 59.1 degrees, or 5.9 degrees warmer than usual for early May.
