A state-wide grand jury has indicted five men for allegedly stealing 1990s-era Honda and Acura autos throughout the metro area, stripping them of parts and abandoning the hollowed-out shells.

According to the 22-count indictment, Henry Cabrera-Hurtado, 23, Alexis Alvarenga, 22, David Armour , 24, Joseph Gonzales, 23, and Juvenal Ramirez-Guzman, 27, are each suspected of playing a role in the theft, dismantling, and abandonment of 14 automobiles between December 2009 and March 2011.

They allegedly stole cars in Longmont, Jefferson County, Denver County, Thornton, Denver, Littleton, Adams and Arapahoe counties, and Westminster.

The group used the parts themselves or sold them, said Deputy Attorney General Michael Dougherty.

“The individuals named in the indictment have connections to others who may have been involved in stealing motor vehicles” as well, said Dougherty.

Armour, Alvarenga and Gonzales are each charged with multiple felony counts related to car theft and could face up to 12 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charges against them. Cabrera-Hurtado faces up to six years in prison for his role and Ramirez-Guzman faces up to three years for his involvement.

The case will be heard in Adams County District Court.
