GOLDEN, Colo.—A man accused of running an illegal sports-betting ring whose clients included high-profile figures in Denver’s sports community has been sentenced to six years of probation and two months of in-home detention.
The Denver Post reports ( ) a judge in Golden noted Daniel Dinner’s lack of criminal history in sentencing him Monday. He had pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief.
Co-defendant Michael Elick had pleaded guilty to gambling by a previous offender. He received five years of probation and 100 hours of community service.
A grand jury indictment listed a former member of the Metro Denver Sports Commission’s board of directors and a former Denver Post sports reporter as clients of the betting ring.
Dinner’s attorney William Taylor says Dinner could still face a federal indictment alleging tax evasion.
