AURORA, Colo.—Federal officials say Children’s Hospital Colorado has agreed to pay $95,000 to settle claims the hospital discriminated against an applicant with a disability.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said Thursday the hospital violated the Americans with Disabilities Act when it withdrew a job offer after a health screening revealed the applicant had fibromyalgia (fy-broh-my-AL’-juh), a chronic pain disorder.
The hospital didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
The EEOC says the hospital also agreed to ensure employees are trained on disability act requirements and will tell the EEOC each time someone is denied a job because of a medical screening.
EEOC says the hospital offered Cecilia McMurray a job contingent on a pre-employment health screening. The commission says that after the screening revealed the disorder, the hospital withdrew its offer.
