FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State University officials estimate it would cost about $246 million to build a football stadium if the school decides to go that route.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports ( ) the figure was discussed Wednesday at a meeting of a committee studying the possibility of a new stadium.

University President Tony Frank has said he won’t make a decision on the project until August.

Opponents argue that the current Hughes Stadium, which is off campus, could attract more fans with more end zone seats, a restaurant and picnic structures.

Athletic director Jack Graham has said an on-campus stadium is critical to creating a game-day tradition that boosts the university’s reputation, alumni donations, out-of-state enrollment and economic benefits.

Graham says he’s confident that CSU could raise the money privately.
