GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—State engineers and community leaders have settled on four possible alignments for a replacement bridge across the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs.

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent reported Thursday ( ) that one option is a wider bridge at the current location.

The other options are a curved, four-lane bridge ending farther west on the north side, and two variations involving two bridges, each one with two lanes carrying traffic in opposite directions.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has budgeted $59 million to design and build the bridge. Construction is expected to start in early 2015 and end in late 2017.

CDOT says the current 60-year-old bridge is in poor condition. CDOT says a replacement is critical because Glenwood Springs has only two routes across the river, which splits the city.
