PARADOX — A fire that has burned more than 9 square miles in western Colorado is 92 percent contained.
Fire managers said they expected the Sunrise Mine fire to be fully contained by today.
Officials believe the fire was human-caused. No structures have burned. The fire is 220 miles west of Denver near the Colorado-Utah border.
A second fire — the Little Sand fire — has burned more than 6½ square miles near Pagosa Springs. No containment figure was released. A total of 20 houses and outbuildings are threatened. Fire managers said lightning started the blaze May 13.
