A tour de force

The Colorado Center for the Blind presents the Littleton Home & Garden Tour today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 13 homes selected for the self-guided “Opening Doors for Brighter Futures” tour include historic landmarks, contemporary and midcentury modern homes all showcasing a variety of architectural styles. Tickets are $25, $20 in advance on the website. For blind ticketholders, vans will leave the center at 10:30 a.m. and noon. Refreshments and lunch available. It’s all geek to me

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has partnered with Wired magazine for its National GeekDad Day on Sunday with a goal of strengthening family ties through science, engineering, math and technology. Scheduled events include paleopuppeteer “Mr. Bones” and his life-size dinosaur puppets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., learning about exotic and colorful animals with Colorado’s “creature teacher,” the Jungle Lady from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and “Secrets of the Dioramas” tour at 12:30 and 2 p.m. The best part: Sunday is an SCFD Community Free Day. 2001 Colorado Blvd., 303-370-6000, , /national-geekdad-day/

The Boulder Ballet begins its eighth annual free outdoor concert series with a collection of new classical and contemporary works along with excerpts from the season. Families are invited to bring a picnic to the one-hour performance. Children are encouraged to hop on stage after the shows to meet the dancers and show their own pirouette. The trio of shows include 1 p.m. Sunday at the Broomfield Ampthitheater in Broomfield, 7 p.m. June 23 at the Civic Green Amphitheater in Highlands Ranch and 7 p.m. June 24 at the Cental Park Bandshell in Boulder. boulder

The Downtown Aquarium Denver has a new resident and is holding a naming contest through July 1. You are welcome to visit the 5-month-old female herbivore, an African crest porcupine, at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and at 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The person with the winning entry for the “Name the Porcupine” contest receives a complimentary dinner for four, four passes to the Aquarium Adventure exhibit and a VIP behind-the-scenes tour of the aquarium.
