DENVER—Denver Public Schools may be asking voters for a $500 million property tax increase to help with budget cuts.
Business and civic leaders say the money is needed to pay for school renovations and programs to help students.
According to the Denver Post ( ), the district estimates it has lost more than $70 million in per pupil funding since state budget cuts began in 2009.
The referred measure would add about $143 to the annual tax bill for a Denver resident with a home valued at $225,000.
