Remains believed to be those of a Thornton man were found Thursday in rural western Nebraska, a week after a 14-hour police standoff during which a man admitted to his slaying.
Andres “Andy” Gonzalez, 27, told police in Alliance, Neb., during the June 12 standoff that he had killed his former friend from Colorado, 38-year-old Joshua Bullock. Gonzalez then killed himself.
Gonzalez had tried to rob a pharmacy and gift store in the town of about 8,500 where he lived, and in the aftermath he wounded two Alliance police officers, a 62-year-old hostage and a Nebraska state trooper.
Thursday afternoon that remains were found in a remote area south of Chadron, Neb., about 55 miles north of Alliance. The remains were submitted for forensic testing to confirm their identity.
Bullock’s burned-out pickup truck was discovered near Chadron on Dec. 14. The distance from the truck to the location where the body was found was not immediately available.
Amber Jacobs, Bullock’s on Saturday that the last time she saw Bullock, just after Thanksgiving, he told her Gonzalez had stolen $200 in cash from him.
Jacobs’ half-brother Mike Sample said Bullock made frequent trips between Thornton and his hometown because he and Gonzalez sold drugs together.
The last time any of Bullock’s family heard from him, he had called a cousin to say he was angry and intended to confront Gonzalez over the stolen money.
