Carbondale fire crews are fighting a wildfire about a half mile south of Colorado Rocky Mountain School in unincorporated Garfield County this afternoon.

The fire was last reported, at 4:20 p.m., as a 1-acre blaze in the Crystal River bottom near Garfield County Road 109 and Indica Way, along the Carbondale’s northwest perimeter, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Investigators think the fire was started by a power line that was knocked down when a truck struck a pole.

“As the power line snapped, it released sparks, which lead to the ignition of the fire,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

No structures are threatened and no evacuation alerts have been sent, but about 40 personnel are on scene to control the fire, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Fire danger is extreme in Garfield County, one of many in Colorado that have enacted .

Thousands of firefighters have this week, including the High Park fire in Larimer County, which has burned at least 68,200 acres and 189 homes.
