A 2-year-old girl was killed Tuesday night in a hit-and-run accident. A suspect has been arrested in connection with the death.

According to a Denver Police news release, police received a call of the hit-and-run accident at about 6:19 p.m. on Tuesday at the 4400 block of West Nevada Place.

The suspect vehicle had fled west on West Nevada Place.

The child was transported to Swedish Medical Center by ambulance and later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the girl was crossing mid-block, when the suspect vehicle, traveling west, struck the child. Officers obtained the vehicle description and plate number and issued an alert.

Shortly after, police identified and arrested 33-year-old Omar Gonzalez.

He is being held on charges of felony hit and run resulting in death, and felony child abuse/criminal negligence resulting in death.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the girl Wednesday as Dariana Martinez-Martin.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
