NEW YORK — One of the greatest high school athletes in Colorado history now calls Yankee Stadium home. Welcome to New York, Darnell McDonald.

The Yankees claimed outfielder McDonald off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. McDonald, a football and baseball blue-chipper at Cherry Creek High School in the 1990s, will join the Yankees on Friday for the start of a four-game series against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

McDonald appeared in 38 games and hit .214 with two homers and nine RBIs this season. For his six-season major-league career, he is hitting .248.
