After burning for two weeks and destroying 347 structures in and to the west of Colorado Springs, the Waldo Canyon fire was expected to be fully contained Friday.

The Type 1 Incident Management Team that has been fighting the fire will transfer command to a Type 3 team Saturday morning, according to a news release.

The team said they would like to thank the community for “all the wonderful support” they’ve been shown during their time in the area.

The blaze is at 18,247 acres as of Friday morning and has cost approximately $15.3 million to fight.

No structures are threatened at this time.

Mandatory evacuations for another 76 homes in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood were lifted around 5 p.m. Friday, according to the city of Colorado Springs. The city said there are still some people evacuated, but did not have a number available.

Residents on the following streets were allowed home Friday afternoon: Wilson Road, Jenner Court, Brogans Bluff Drive, Karamy Court, Tamora Way and Ravina Court.

The U.S. Forest Service said it will still maintain several closures, however, while firefighters continue to mop up hot spots and work on rehabilitation.

One to 2 inches of rain were expected to hit the fire area Friday and Saturday, with cooler temperatures and higher humidity rolling in.

According to the Forest Service, Colorado has seen more than a dozen fires this season.
