A 21-year-old Evergreen man was hospitalized after trying to climb to the roof of a Boulder building from a third-floor balcony early this morning.
Ryan Scott Haebe, was injured around 2 a.m. after falling13 feet to a lower-level balcony.
Haebe was with two friends, who said the victim was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Haebe and his friends decided to climb to the roof after coming home from an evening out, according to a city of Boulder news release. They climbed over the balcony’s railing before hanging onto the edge of the roof and stepping onto a three-inch wide ledge that inclined to the roof.
The release said one of Haebe’s friend had made it to the roof when he heard Haebe fall onto the balcony below them.
Since no one was in the lower-floor apartment, the Boulder Fire Department had to force entry.
Haebe was unconscious and bleeding with what appeared to be head injuries. He is in critical condition.
Both alcohol and weather appear to be factors in the fall, authorities said.
