A 13-year-old girl died Wednesday night in what appeared to be an agricultural accident after she tried to clean a filter on an irrigation system in Larimer County.
According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred a little after 8 p.m. near Ted’s Place on U.S. 287. The girl, Kelsey Graves, had been dropped off by her older brother to clean the filter.
When she didn’t return one of his calls later, he went back and found her unconscious, the Sheriff’s Office news release said.
Initial reports said the girl was possibly electrocuted by the irrigation system.
Medical staff from Poudre Valley Hospital, Poudre Fire Authority personnel and the Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident. A medical helicopter was requested but Graves died at the scene.
The official cause and manner of death is yet to be determined.
