At least 10 to 11 buffalo were killed early Thursday morning on Interstate 70 west of Bennett.
At 2:20 a.m., authorities received a call about a cow that had been hit by a vehicle. Colorado State Patrol troopers discovered the bodies of several buffalo, not cows, when they arrived on scene.
Two people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries after encountering the animals on the road.
Officials helped the owners remove the bodies from the road.
It is not known who hit the animals. Authorities say they are not looking for the vehicles involved.
