While the number of homicide cases in Colorado rose in 2011, the CBI reports, the overall number of crimes reported decreased by 0.3 percent.

The released these figures Thursday in its annual Crime in Colorado report.

According to the report, homicides rose from 129 in 2010 to 156 last year. The number still falls below the 169 homicides reported in 2009. On the CBI website’s records, which go back to 1998, the highest number of homicides came in 2004, with 199.

Forcible rape cases also increased to 2,236 , up from 2,168 in 2010. The 3.1 percent rise marks the fourth consecutive year rates for this crime have gone up.

Robberies went from 3,131 in 2011 to 3,313 in 2011. The number of assaults that did not include a firearm increased by 2.5 percent — from 26,913 to 27,597 .

The four remaining crimes included in the annual report — aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft — all saw decreases in 2011.

The most significant drop came in cases of aggravated assaults, from 11,248 in 2010 to 10,573 in 2011.

Coloradans reported 25,574 burglaries in 2011 and 95,288 cases of larceny. The numbers are down 0.8 percent and 0.5 percent from 2010 respectively.

Reports of motor vehicle thefts decreased from 11,114 in 2010 to 10,938 in 2011.

Violent crime, including murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault, in Colorado dropped by 2.4 percent and property crimes by 0.6 percent, slightly less than the decrease the nation saw overall.

Preliminary national statistics from the FBI show a drop of 4 percent in violent crimes and 0.8 percent in property crimes reported last year compared with the year before.
