GREELEY — Greeley-Evans School District 6 has decided to terminate a long-time Spanish teacher accused of sexually assaulting a student and then bearing his child.
Superintendent Ranelle Lang will inform the Board of Education at a special meeting on Monday that she will begin the process of terminating Rhonda Eisenberg, 44, who was charged on July 27 with two counts of sexual assault on a child, one as a person in a position of trust and the other involving a pattern of abuse. One charge carries a potential 12-year prison sentence if convicted.
Eisenberg is out of jail on $50,000 bond. Her next court appearance is 9 a.m. Aug. 30 when she will be formally advised of the charges against her and the possible penalties she faces. She hired Michael Cohen, a Broomfield attorney, to represent her.
District officials said they can takes steps based on their own investigation despite the fact that Eisenberg hasn’t been tried or convicted.
Eisenberg has been on paid administrative leave since her arrest on July 17. She has taught at Northridge High School since 2000. Before that, she taught Spanish at Heath Middle School from 1991-2000, and last year for the district’s online high school, Engage Online Academy. Her salary is $61,726.
