If, before the season, you had offered the Rockies’ Christian Friedrich a chance to pitch against San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum in an August game, knowing they would have the same number of wins, he probably would have accepted.
As it stands Sunday, when the Rockies host the Giants at 1:10 p.m. at Coors Field, the two pitchers will meet on opposite ends of the National League West Division.
The Giants before Thursday’s games were 56-48 and leading the division, a game ahead of the Dodgers. The Rockies were in the cellar at 37-65, 18 games behind San Francisco.
Never mind the standings. Friedrich (5-8, 6.17 ERA) is pitching to find his groove. He was bumped off a scheduled Thursday start to get healthier; he’s 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA in his past three starts.
Lincecum (5-11, 5.62 ERA) will be looking to rebound from an April outing in Denver. In that game, he allowed six earned runs in 2 ⅓ innings in the shortest start of his career. Nick Groke, The Denver Post
