Two Fort Carson soldiers and an Air Force officer died Wednesday in eastern Afghanistan.

Maj. Thomas E. Kennedy, 35, of West Point, N.Y., and Command Sgt. Maj. Kevin J. Griffin, 45, of Laramie, Wyo. were killed when a suicide bomber struck their unit in Kunar province. The soldiers were assigned to the headquarters company of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, which deployed to Afghanistan in March.

Word of the two casualties came hours after the Defense Department announced the death of Maj. Walter D. Gray, 38, of Conyers, Ga., who was assigned to Fort Carson’s 13th Air Support Operations Squadron.

Gray also died in a suicide bomb attack in Kunar province, though the Defense Department did not say whether the two blasts were related.
