A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized early Saturday morning after he was struck and injured by a passing freight train in Monument, authorities say.
The boy’s identity is being withheld because he is a juvenile, said Sgt. Joe Roybal, spokesman for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy was hit by a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train carrying coal at a road crossing at about 1:13 a.m. Saturday, Roybal said.
Passersby found the boy shortly thereafter and called 911. The boy was conscious at the time and did not have life threatening injuries, he said.
The circumstances of the accident are under investigation, Roybal said.
