Denver International Airport plans to announce a new international airline Thursday.
Officials won’t confirm the name of the new carrier, but a press release detailing the planned announcement states that Volaris Airlines’ CEO will be present.
Volaris Airlines is a Mexican low-cost carrier that began making flights in 2006. It is currently the third leading passenger airline in Mexico, with 150 daily flights that service 25 cities in Mexico and eight in the United States.
Volaris CEO Enrique Beltranena will join Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock at the event. The Consul General of Mexico in Denver, Andrés Chao, and DIA’s Aviation Manager, Kim Day, will also be present.
This will be the sixth internationally-based airline servicing Denver. When the airline begins its service to DIA in December, there will be a total of 16 airlines with nearly 180 nonstop destinations.
The announcement is scheduled to be made official at a press conference at the Denver Art Museum.
