Cool sleeping — maybe enough to shut the windows and pull up a blanket — is in store for metro Denver Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service is predicting near-record low temperatures in the upper 40s. They will be noticeably cooler than the average low of 58 degrees.
The record low for the early-morning hours of Aug. 19 is 48, reached in 2002.
“We had a cool front come in (Saturday) morning. That brought in dry air, and when you get that dry air, it leads to fall-like weather,” said Kyle Fredin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Boulder. “The dry air heats up and cools down faster than moist air.”
Temperatures will warm up again on Sunday, with metro Denver highs predicted in the lower 80s. The average high for the date is 87.
