President Barack Obama will speak at Colorado State University in Fort Collins on Tuesday evening, a speech aimed both at mobilizing younger voters and drawing attention away from the Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Doors open for the gathering on Monfort Quad at 2 p.m., but the event isn’t scheduled to begin until approximately 5:20 p.m. Tickets are required.
Assuming Hurricane Isaac doesn’t lead GOP officials to make additional schedule changes, the party’s convention also will begin in full Tuesday night, with a portion televised nationally.
Obama’s stop in the swing county of Larimer is part of a two-day college tour that also includes stops in two other battleground states: Iowa and Virginia. He is expected to talk about what his administration has done to help students and their families afford a college education, and to encourage attendees to register to vote.
Mitt Romney supporters also will hold an event in Fort Collins as part of a four-day statewide bus tour. The rally is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the corner of University and Meridian avenues.
Obama is also scheduled to appear in Boulder on Sunday, although additional details won’t be known for several days.
