ERIE, Colo.—The Erie Board of Trustees has allowed a six-month moratorium on new oil and gas operations to expire after agreement was reached on tough new regulations.

The agreements with Anadarko Petroleum Corp. and Encana Oil & Gas passed 6-1 at a meeting on Tuesday.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera ( ), opponents wanted the moratorium extended until state health officials finish an air quality study at a well site near an elementary school.

New requirements include berms to contain spills, air protection equipment and a ban on hazardous drilling chemicals.

State regulators say the requirements are reasonable and can be enforced.
