It has always been Cyndi’s goal to earn her master’s degree, but she lives 2.5 hours from the nearest university, and was beginning to think that life had a way of derailing her plan – until she discovered Colorado State University’s online Master’s degree program in Organizational Performance and Change.
“I started my master’s degree at another university online, and after three classes, found the level of instruction didn’t meet my expectations, and the students were motivated by different ideals than I was,” explained Cyndi Johnson. “I received a catalog at work about Colorado State University’s online programs, found the Organizational Performance and Change program, and immediately knew that was what I wanted to do. “I live in a rural part of Wyoming, 2.5 hours from the nearest university,” Cyndi shared. “I have a great job, which means I am unwilling to relocate to go to school. However, earning a graduate degree will allow me to advance in my current career or find a new career completely, better supporting my family and financing my dreams. “I use my knowledge every day at work,” Cyndi said of her role as an HR representative at a manufacturing plant. “The skills I’ve gained from my coursework at CSU, and the interactions with my professors and classmates, have given me a better foundation to make great decisions and complete innovative projects.” Cyndi went on to work toward her Ph.D. at Colorado State University though the School of Education as well. Some people’s bucket lists contain adventurous things like sky-diving and bungee-jumping – Cyndi’s included finishing her dissertation, getting a Ph.D., publishing to contribute to the advancement of educational research, and teaching adult learners. “Having access to quality higher education means I am not ‘stuck’ in rural Wyoming forever! While I have a good job now, with a Ph.D., I can find an even better job in a more desirable location,” Cyndi said.
