An Aurora officer was transported to the hospital this evening with minor injuries after a car accident.

The accident took place just before 6 p.m. when a police vehicle with two officers was responding to a burglary in progress with lights and sirens.

The officers were southbound on Havana approaching East Alameda Avenue. When the police vehicle was moving into the turn lane to get onto East Alameda Avenue, a pickup truck also moved into the left turn lane just in front of the officers.

The patrol car hit the pickup and both cars stopped, police said.

Ambulances transported the driver of the pickup “for precautionary reasons” and the officer who was a passenger in the patrol car, for minor injuries, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

Southbound Havana is closed at Alameda Avenue for the investigation.
