Hazardous materials crews are cleaning up oil that leaked from a truck on Washington Street in Adams County.
The incident unfolded about 11:15 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of East 64th Avenue and Washington Street, said Trooper Josh Lewis, a Colorado State Patrol spokesman.
The truck carrying the oil didn’t crash, Lewis said, but it somehow developed a leak and came to a stop.
An undetermined amount of oil flowed into a sewer drain before responders were able to plug the drain.
About 400 gallons of oil is being cleaned up, and southbound traffic on Washington has been shut down by the incident from East 69th Avenue to East 62nd Avenue.
Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
The cause of the leak remains under investigation.
