A domestic violence suspect who on Wednesday has been identified.

Ryon Olthoff, 36, was taken into custody by Denver Police Department SWAT members about 2 p.m. after being flushed out of a residential building near the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and West Third Avenue.

Olthoff was put on a stretcher and taken to a hospital to be evaluated. He was identified today after his release from the hospital and his subsequent arrest.

The standoff Wednesday began before 7 a.m., when Denver police set up a perimeter in the residential area near Santa Fe Drive and West Third Avenue after a man fired shots at officers.

Officers had originally been called to the location around 6:44 a.m. on a complaint of domestic violence, said Raquel Lopez, a police spokeswoman.

Dozens of police officers were on scene all day and closed off several blocks in the area.

Olthoff has a long arrest record in Colorado, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records, dating back to 1995. In 2002 he was sentenced to four years in the Colorado Department of Corrections on a drug conviction in Jefferson County. Also in 2002, Olthoff was sentenced to nine years in prison for a burglary in Denver.
