LAKEWOOD — Break out the dancing shoes and get ready to swing for a good cause.

The Battle of the Big Bands benefit dance will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Lakewood Elks Lodge, 1455 Newland St.

The dance will raise money for the West Metro Fire Rescue Foundation.

“Everyone is really excited and ready to go for this,” said Tom Bossen, announcer for the event.

Band leader Gordon Dooley, 91, who performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, will come out of retirement for the event.

“He (Dooley) wanted to do something when he heard about all the awful fires this summer,” Bossen said.

Trumpeter Dooley reassembled his 14-piece orchestra and will be joined at the dance with the Stephen Paul Orchestra and the Dean Bushnell Orchestra.

The West Metro Fire Rescue Foundation promotes life safety through community leadership, providing education and financial assistance in support of West Metro Fire Protection District’s activities, according to its website.

Tickets to the event are $10 at the door.
