DENVER—A woman accused of taking more than $240,000 from a Denver-based group that produced firefighter calendars to raise money has pleaded guilty to theft.
Fired Up For Kids founder Kirsten Hamling pleaded guilty Thursday to a single theft count in exchange for other charges being dismissed. She is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 16.
Hamling created the nonprofit group in 2004 to raise money for the burn unit at Children’s Hospital Colorado by selling calendars with photos of firefighters. Prosecutors alleged Hamling used money from the group for her own use, including personal airline tickets, hair salon charges, car repairs and her children’s private school tuition. Hamling resigned from Fired Up For Kids last year.
