A and then crashing after leading deputies on a long, high-speed chase, has been identified.
Shelby Figueroa, 18, faces multiple charges including attempted vehicular assault on a peace officer, aggravated motor vehicle theft, resisting arrest and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Figueroa is suspected of stealing a police vehicle and leading Clear Creek deputies and Colorado State Patrol troopers on a wild chase Sunday morning.
The incident began about 10:10 a.m. when a woman driving west on I-70 was stopped after she led deputies on a low speed chase of about four miles. The woman backed into a patrol car and got out of her vehicle in a combative state, the sheriff’s office said.
She was handcuffed and put into the back of a patrol car but managed to slip the cuffs, climb out a window and steal the vehicle as deputies worked the nearby stop scene.
The woman then lead deputies and troopers on a 22-mile chase, hitting speeds of 95 mph, before ending in a crash.
Investigators on Tuesday identified Figueroa as the suspect.
Her next court date is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 2.
