
All hourly employees at Vestas Wind Systems’ manufacturing factories in Windsor and Brighton were informed Monday that their jobs were being reduced from 40 hours to 32 hours a week.
The company employs 1,100 in Colorado with manufacturing jobs but would not disclose how many would be affected by the change.
The decision comes after Vestas received approval from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment for a work-share program.
The state’s unemployment fund will compensate employees for their lost wages for up to 18 weeks.
Vestas said in a statement the decision was made to avoid job cuts. It is involving layoffs and downsizing, with 200 Windsor workers .
