STEAMBOAT SPRINGS —Art is more than squares hanging on white walls, and white walls are much more than places to hang art.
The concept behind a new pop-up art gallery and boutique store in downtown Steamboat Springs is a place where the energy of various art forms meet, filling the walls and the space between.
Masterminded by Kimberly Saari, Christy Borden and Kelly Subr, the space will be a crossroads of contemporary artwork, world fashion and locally inspired gifts.
The gallery is in Howelsen Place on Seventh Street between Carl’s Tavern and Urbane, and Saari said she is on a month-to-month lease through January.
“Why strictly have an art gallery when I don’t have to?” she said. “It was being able to bring a lot of elements of the community together.”
K. Saari Gallery/Soul Sisters Studio opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday for an all-day holiday open house. They plan to be open seven days per week.
“We really feel like we want to come at it not from a competitive standpoint; it’s time to move past being competitive and celebrate the individual within the group,” Subr said. “We’re wanting to work together.”
