FORT LUPTON, Colo.—Snow and wind are being blamed for causing crashes involving up to around 25 vehicles in Fort Lupton.
The chain reaction crashes Friday morning shut down northbound U.S. Highway 85 temporarily. There were no serious injuries.
Poor visibility and strong winds also temporarily shut down some highways on the Eastern Plains. U.S. Highway 285 was closed southbound into New Mexico, but it reopened Thursday evening.
A gust of 68 mph was reported Friday morning near Walsenburg.
In western Colorado, highway officials reported 10 inches of new snow Friday morning at Red Mountain Pass south of Ouray (yoo-ray).
Forecasters say subzero temperatures are expected in the mountains on Saturday. It’s forecast to be in the teens along the Front Range.
