GUNNISON, Colo.—Rescuers have recovered the body of a man who died in an avalanche in Gunnison County.
Sheriff’s officials say 37-year-old James Lindenblatt was backcountry skiing with two other men when the slide happened Sunday near the town of Marble, west of Aspen. The two men said they dug Lindenblatt out from under the snow but he had already died.
They told sheriff’s officials it appeared he had died of injuries from the violence of the avalanche.
A helicopter recovered his remains Monday. Gunnison County Undersheriff Randy Barnes says he was a Summit County employee.
Denver’s KCNC-TV reports ( ) Lindenblatt was from Marble.
It’s the second avalanche death in Colorado this season.
