BOULDER, Colo.—A former Marine who gained notoriety after pleading guilty to staging his disappearance to avoid returning to the military is back in jail.
The Daily Camera reports ( ) Lance Hering was booked into the Boulder County jail Thursday to begin serving a 10-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to unlawful conduct on public property in a 2012 case. Police had arrested him after his roommates reported he was drunk and violent.
The Iraq war veteran will be allowed to serve out the sentence on a work crew.
In 2009, Hering pleaded guilty to false reporting after he and a friend staged his disappearance from Eldorado Canyon State Park in 2006. Hering was found and arrested in Washington state in 2008.
