PUEBLO, Colo.—Trinidad High School has lost its football coaching staff.

Head coach Randy Begano told The Pueblo Chieftain () that he and four members of his staff were relieved of coaching duties this week, though they can keep teaching in the district, while assistant coach Mitch McGill told school officials he isn’t returning.

District officials declined Thursday to discuss personnel issues.

Randy Begano says he was told the district wants to go in a new direction.

In April, a jury awarded $11.5 million in a lawsuit filed by former Trinidad player Rhett Ridolfi, who sustained brain injuries after a hit in practice. Jurors found helmet company Riddell negligent in failing to warn customers of possible concussion dangers, and some coaches were found negligent for failing to immediately get Ridolfi medical help.
