A man who died while in custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has been identified.
Guy Guthrie, 55, of the Pine area, had trouble breathing and collapsed Sunday morning as he was being led to a patrol car.
Guthrie was identified Monday by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office. The cause and manner of his death are pending autopsy results.
The to 30438 Sunset Trail, Conifer, on a report of a man, “who appeared to be on drugs…making suicidal threats,” according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived they found the man, identified as Guthrie. He was carrying a pellet gun and refused to follow commands.
Guthrie was stunned with a Taser and handcuffed. He was being led to a patrol car when he began having problems breathing, said Mark Techmeyer, a sheriff’s spokesman.
Deputies took the handcuffs off and a medical crew, which was already on scene, began working on Guthrie, Techmeyer said.
He was pronounced dead at 7:57 a.m. on scene.
