The driver involved in a fatal Memorial Day weekend traffic accident has died.

William “Willy” Wheeler, 40, was taken off life support about 9:35 p.m. Monday, according to the Arvada Police Department.

were Jennifer Rhodes, 35, and 33-year-old Cody Crosby.

Rhodes died at the scene and Crosby was taken off life support the next day.

“The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but we do know that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts,” Sgt. Kelly Sheehan said in a media release.

The trio worked together at a Jiffy Lube in Littleton and were car-pooling when the accident happened.

Wheeler was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus westbound on I-70 when the car hit a broken-down pickup truck that was parked in the emergency lane, police said. No one was in the truck.
