GREELEY, Colo.—Federal workplace regulators have proposed fining JBS USA LLC in Greeley more than $83,000 over alleged health and safety violations, including exposing meat-processing employees to possible amputations.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday it has cited JBS with 11 serious violations, one repeat violation and eight other-than-serious violations.
JBS didn’t immediately return an email seeking comment.
OSHA says an inspection that began in December found elevated work areas that could lead to falls and a lack of proper machine guarding that could lead to amputations. It noted other alleged serious violations, including failing to use safe work practices for electrical elements.
The alleged repeat violation involved failing to properly guard machinery, exposing workers to ingoing nip points and rotating parts. OSHA noted similar violations in 2009.
